RETHINKING OUR FUTURE: INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY 2001 CONFERENCE.
SATURDAY, MARCH 10TH, 9AM-6PM
AT THE LOOP CAMPUS OF DEPAUL UNIVERSITY
-- 1 EAST JACKSON BLVD, 8th Floor

Providing a forum for Chicago-area women to strategize, network and share information and resources, the conference will address the many personal and political issues that affect women's lives. Dozens of social service organizations that serve Chicago women, as well as political organizations will be represented.
Participants can choose from a dizzying array of WORKSHOPS on diverse issues important to women, from the economic effects of globalization to health care, reproductive freedom, herbal remedies, Queer issues, homelessness, theories of feminism, environmental justice, and women in prison. And this is just to name a few! In between workshops, participants can browse through the LITERATURE AND ORGANIZATION FAIR to find out more about Chicago area groups working on women's issues.
If that is not enough to keep participants busy, the day also includes screenings of women related/women produced videos, such as "JANE," a documentary about the Jane collective, a group that provided underground abortions for women in the late 60s and early 70s before Roe V. Wade; "SKIN DEEP," a documentary about the distribution and effects of the contraceptive Norplant in the U.S.; "WHAT WE LEAVE BEHIND," the Women's International Information Project documentary about women in prison; "WOMEN UNITED," a Chiapas Media Project documentary about indigenous women's collective work in Chiapas, Mexico.
To accompany the vegetarian lunch, the skillful KOREAN WOMEN'S DRUMMING GROUP will perform in the afternoon. The day will conclude with an after-hours cultural program with scenes from the internationally acclaimed "VAGINA MONOLOGUES" and other performances.

THIS IS A CHICAGO EVENT THAT WOMEN SHOULD NOT MISS!
Suggested donation for this event is $5
(no one turned away, lunch provided).
